Examiner.com makes the move to Drupal 7

April 09, 2010

Examiner.com, a community-based news website, recently announced that it was migrating its web development system to Drupal 7.

The website offers a preview of their new look on their homepage, with the phrase, "There goes the neighborhood," promising a new experience. The move to Drupal comes after Examiner.com acquired the NowPublic news publication, which uses Drupal's open source technology and was Emmy-nominated for real-time mechanisms for scanning online conversations.

Examiner.com is one of the top 100 most visited websites in the U.S., drawing more than 11 million unique visitors each month, according to research by Quantcast. The news website serves 240 markets in North America.

Michael Meyers, chief technology officer for Examiner.com, says that as the company makes the implementation it will share its experience with the web development community.

"We are excited to share our experiences and challenges with the Drupal community," says Meyers. "Examiner.com's port to Drupal 7 will certainly be a game-changer for the entire online news and information media market."

Examiner.com says that once the migration is completed, the website will be the largest consumer site managed on the Drupal platform.

The latest version of Drupal was released in March 2010, although it is still in alpha phase. Drupal is an open source platform and is free on the internet.ADNFCR-3257-ID-19714002-ADNFCR
