MySpace implements cross-platform sharing feature for Facebook
On Monday, MySpace introduced a cross-platform sync function that works with competing social network Facebook. The feature may enable brands to reach more consumers with their MySpace marketing campaigns.
Called "Sync with Facebook," the new function enables MySpace users to broadcast status updates and share content, including videos, images and music, on Facebook. Marketers could use the feature to push promotional content simultaneously across both platforms.
While MySpace users will be able to share content through Facebook, the feature is limited to one-way interactions - Facebook users are unable to broadcast messages through MySpace. The News Corp.-owned social network has a similar arrangement in place with Twitter, though Twitter users can also post content to MySpace.
"This new sync functionality is part of an ongoing effort to make it simple for people to share their updates beyond MySpace and allow fans and friends to interact with that content across the web," said Jennifer Ruffner, director of product management at MySpace.
Together, Facebook and News Corp. reach a tremendous number of consumers on a monthly basis. According to comScore, web properties owned by both companies served more than 200 million unique viewers in July.
