Indianapolis aims to increase tourism with Super Bowl marketing
In the weeks leading up to Super Bowl XLVI, Indianapolis is humming as marketers and logistics managers organize the final details surrounding the big day, the International Business Times reports.
According to one person involved in the planning, a lot more is at stake than the logistics on game day.
Chris Gahl, vice president of marketing and communications for the Indianapolis Convention and Visitors Association (ICVA), told IBT that the community was under pressure to present itself as "buttoned up and prepared.
"We want to roll out the red carpet for this event not only because of its magnitude, but to insure that we prove to the NFL that we are capable of being in contention to host again," he said.
In addition to the services that will be surrounding Lucas Oil Stadium, the news source notes that the city is trying to mimic an Olympic village, complete with vendors, food carts, stages and other attractions.
As The Indianapolis Star reports, the ICVA is also building out a marketing campaign targeted at residents of Indiana and nearby states, encouraging them to come to town before it is swamped for the Super Bowl, filling hotel rooms in the days leading up to the weekend.
