Kentucky aims to market best assets with museum exhibits

January 17, 2012

The Kentucky Department of Travel and Tourism is expanding its "There's Only One" marketing campaign by adding six museums to the list of attractions it will be promoting over the coming months, the agency recently announced. The initiative aims to focus on all the aspects of the commonwealth that can't be found anywhere else in the world.

"There's only one Kentucky, and these museums provide a starting place for discovering it," the department said.

The Kentucky Derby Museum made the list, as did the International Bluegrass Museum, the National Corvette Museum - showcasing sports cars dating back to the 1950s - and the National Quilt Museum, which features approximately 12 exhibits every year and displays up to 150 quilts. Additionally, the department will be promoting the Muhammad Ali Center - which will be housing a Smithsonian Exhibit on African Americans and Native Americans from mid-January to mid-March - and the Louisville Slugger Museum.

Another one of Kentucky's famed products, bourbon, will be celebrated at the Derby Museum with a new exhibit that explains Louisville's connection to the bourbon industry.
